What children need, by age
| Age | Lab tests | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Under 2 | Usually none | TB testing only in certain cases, such as a known TB exposure |
| 2 to 17 | TB blood test (IGRA) | Vaccines checked against the CDC table for the child's age |
Teenagers 11 and older also need Tdap and meningococcal vaccines if they haven't had them. See vaccines required by age.
Tips for the visit
- Bring the child's passport or birth certificate and every vaccination record you have.
- A parent or legal guardian should come to the visit and answer the health questions for young children.
- Bring a snack and a favorite toy — a calm child makes the visit quicker.
Common questions
